•A Bar is a line of shingle and sand which has joined two headlands at each side cutting off a bay
•A spit grows across the bay
•A sandbank develops offshore parallel to the shore and is moved towards the coastline by the waves and wind until it joins the mainland
•Inbetween the old bay and the coastal bar a lagoon forms, being very diverse in biodiversity housing many endangered or rare species.
